MONDAY CLASSES FOR ADULTS
AC01 Co-op Independent Ceramics with Facilitator
Dallas Shoesmith Students
choosing this class must have taken a minimum of 3 Advanced
Ceramics classes. Students must be able to work without
an instructor and be willing to share studio tasks such
as mixing glazes, clean up and firing of the kiln, etc.
as assigned by the facilitator and do individual demonstrations
during class for other
students. Skills in construction and glazing methods, advanced
knowledge in chemicals and glaze formulas, ability to load
kilns, and knowledge in firing temperatures is necessary.
Extra open studio time is available on Thursdays from 1 -
4pm.

AC02 Pastel Painting with Bob Clouse
This basic to intermediate class is an introduction to pastels,
surfaces, and related art materials. The focus will be
on exploring various pastel applications while developing
an individual style. Concepts covered will include composition,
color theory, value, intensity, perspective and more. Advanced
students will continue to practice techniques while striving
to develop a personal style of expression. Call the
Art Center for a materials list. Bring materials
and a picture or photo of your choice to the first class. (22.5

class is designed for people who have the basics and are
ready to move forward. Create with clay in your chosen

There will be a Raku workshop the last day of class. Extra

AC07 Drawing with Bob Clouse
This class will focus on visual concepts and terminology
that leads to realistic drawings. Methods that will be
used are vase/face, blind and contour drawing, negative
space, grid drawing, portraits and gesture drawings. The
knowledge of drawing is basic to all other art forms. This
is an excellent class for those who say they can’t
draw a straight line or for those who want to brush up
on their skills. Students need to bring a newsprint
pad or white drawing pad at least 9” x 12”. (22.5

AC09 Fused Glass with Joe Takens
Students will learn the fundamentals of fusing glass over
the course of this six week class. Starting with
basic fusing techniques using standard glass, students
will advance to dichroic glass and the process of using
molds and slumping glass. Students will be making
jewelry out of some of their fused glass pieces as well
as making some larger functional molded and slumped glass
pieces.

Students will learn basic methods and techniques to improve
painting skills. Painting projects will be mostly landscapes
and seascapes. Bring photos or pictures for subject
matter. The first day of class bring a pad of drawing
paper, pictures, and pencil; the supplies will be discussed.

Have no fear! Come and relax, listen to soothing music, find

AC12 Pen and Ink Drawing with David
Bogle
In this beginner to intermediate class, students will use
a variety of tools including technical pens, quill pens and
hand colored pen and ink. Hatching, cross hatching,
and pointillism will be practiced. Students will get
a full range of drawing techniques with pen and ink including
wet on wet, marbleizing, and transferring. Students need
to bring to class – India ink, quill starter set, illustration
board (cold press), spray bottle, toothbrush, water jar,
ruler, pencil, kneaded eraser, white gouache, fine tipped
brush, tracing paper, paper towels, spray adhesive, and if
you have any technical pens. (27 hours)

Students will learn how to build a character using stick
figures, shapes, cubes, and cylinders. They will also
how to create detail and light, by using this process students

AC17 Basic Metalsmithing: Cold Connections
Crash Course with Emily Wohlscheid

beginner who would like to take “Containment: A Metal

AC18 Handmade Tiles with Irina Clopatofsky
Tiles have been around for thousands of years. In this
class, students will create original tiles; they will learn
to make a plaster mold and to press copies in the mold. We
will discuss different ways to make tiles and decorative
techniques such as carving, relief, and sgraffito. The
instructor will share her technique to avoid warping to get
flat tiles.

This class focuses on the human form. A female or male model
will be utilized as subject matter. Both students and
professional artists are invited to take the course. Personalized

AC20 Containment: A Metal Box, Start
to Finish with Emily Wohlscheid
*previous experience or prerequisite class “Basic Metalsmithing” required. In
this class students will create a metal box starting with
a simple sheet of copper or brass from a template using only
cold connections. Students will be encouraged to personalize
their boxes using textures, patina, and found objects. Skills
covered will include
scoring, folding, hinges, and catches.

This class with concentrate solely on incorporating stones
such as cabochons and faceted gems into jewelry pieces without
soldering or casting. Using creative handmade settings and
prefabricated prongs and bezels we will set beautiful stones
with ease.

This class is for adults who want to play in the paint! Splatter
and dribble painting techniques will be explored similar
to modern artist Jackson Pollock. Students will need

delightful book is an original design by the artist. It

is a wonderful project for any level of experience. Paint,

In this introduction to air brush painting class you will

you will capture the power of air and convert it into works
of art. All materials will be supplied but if you have
an airbrush please bring it to class.

painters will also need Turpenoid and Liquin Originals. Michaels

colored glass rod and tubing will be the medium for most
projects including beads, pendants, blown ornaments, sculptures,

AC30 Iconic Dwellings with Kim Eberstein
This workshop begins with instruction on creating a sculptural
dwelling form from sticks, twigs, and string. The
instructor will help you prepare the armature and you will
create sheets of handmade paper to cover the dwelling structure. Embellishments
can be embedded in the paper or applied after it is dry. A
dwelling is a home, defined as “the place in which
one’s domestic affections are centered.” This
could be a building or house structure. It could
be a conceptual place like a place in your heart or your
memories. This project offers the artist an opportunity
to create a unique sculptural form. Feel free to
bring items to use to embellish your dwelling like magazine
or newspaper images, cardboard, beads, feathers, thread
and yarn, etc. (3 hours)

will be explored. Children need to come dressed for a messy

AC39 Custom Dyed Leggings with Emily
Wohlscheid
In this one day workshop, you will create one of a kind leggings
using professional dyes and resist techniques. An emphasis
on pattern will allow students to let their own personal
style shine through. Each student will leave with 2
pair of custom leggings, one resist dyed and one bleach dyed
stenciled pair. Wear clothing that can be stained. Students
need to bring one lightly colored and one dark colored pair
of new unwashed leggings.

AC40 Kids Papermaking Workshop with
Kim Eberstein
Students will explore the science and art of papermaking
working with both 2D and 3D. We will create images
with colored paper pulp using a variety of techniques and
we will explore paper as sculpture.

Shop the Gift Gallery at the Art Center
On Saturday, November 27 from 11 – 3 the gift gallery
at the Art Center will be open for your shopping pleasure. We
are one of the premiere Michigan gift galleries representing
over 100 Michigan artists!! Bring in your children and
we will entertain them while you shop the gift gallery. Free

AC46 Ladies Night Out with Audrey Haddock
Ladies, lets get down and dirty!! Come wrestle with the
mud! Gather your friends for an evening working with
clay and create something of your very own. Class fee
includes clay, glaze, firing, wine and hors d’oeuvres.

AC48 Grandparents Day
Bring the whole family and celebrate with your grandparents. Activities
for children and grandparents will be the highlight of this
wonderful evening. Holly Mart and a special holiday exhibit
will be on display. Children and grandparents can create
a project together – a painted
picture frame. Studio 1
