UPCOMING EXBITIONS & EVENTS:

DC to BC - February 5-25

Featuring the work of African American photographer Lowell McGinnis and a selection of African Art to celebration Black History Month.

"Everybody's path begins somewhere" says photojournalist Lowell Mc Ginnis, the featured artist at the Art Center of Battle Creek in his exhibit "From BC to DC." Lowell has developed a skilled photographer’s eye that captures images that visualize a story, whether it’s a feature story, newsworthy, and political, narrative or sporting event.

Lowell's featured work will include 25 of his candid shots of newsworthy events and historical moments with accompanying insights by the artist.  Opening on February 7th, the exhibit will continue through February 24th.  The free reception for this exhibit will be a closing reception that will take place on Sunday, February 26th from 2-4 pm.

Lowell operates a photography studio that caters to businesses for advertising as well as personal portraits.  He is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in journalism at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C., hence the "From BC to DC" title for this exhibit. While attending the university he has already earned a two-year certificate in photographic arts. "Lomac," as many of his colleagues call him, has turned a beloved hobby into a career. As a contractor/freelance photographer, his images have appeared in such publications as the "Battle Creek Enquirer", "Ebony", "Roll Call" and the "Washington Post" just to name a few.
Lowell was once asked, what his favorite shot is, and he replied, "The next one."
