Oh the Places You'll Go
“Oh the Places You’ll Go” is to the Art Center of Battle Creek to celebrate the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to the world as the beloved Dr. Seuss. The Cat in the Hat, perhaps the defining book of Ted's career, developed when Ted was asked to write and illustrate a children’s primer using only 225 “new-reader vocabulary words. At the time of his death on September 24, 1991, Ted had written and illustrated 44 children's books, including such all-time favorites as Green Eggs and Ham, Oh, the Places You'll Go, Fox in Socks, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. His books had been translated into more than 15 languages. Over 200 million copies had found their way into homes and hearts around the world.
The special event will take place on Saturday, March 1 from 1-3 pm. Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday by listening and reading his books, playing some Dr. Seuss games and creating your own “Whoville-type” artwork. The special event will take place on Saturday, March 1 from 1-3 pm. Suggested donations are $5 per family.
Class Act: Elementary through Secondary School Art exhibit
Artistic talent starts at a young age and what better way to see it is to come to the Art Center of Battle Creek for Class Act: Elementary to High School Art exhibit. Each year the Center invites the art teachers in Calhoun County and the CISD area to participate by selecting and sending artwork for exhibit.
Because of the weather and the effect it has had on the schools districts the Art Center is postponing the start of the exhibit to March 9th (originally set for March 2nd). This will allow the art teachers to have a few extra days to get artwork to us.
The Class Act Elementary (K-5) reception has been changed from Sunday, March 2nd to Sunday, March 9th from 2-4 pm at the Art Center. Art students and their teachers will be honored during this time. Refreshments will be served. Students present will have a chance to win door prizes.
The Class Act Secondary (6-12) reception will take place on the already scheduled date of Sunday, March 16th from 2-4 pm. This exhibit is a juried exhibit with first, second, third and two honorable mention awards presented the day of the reception. Refreshments are also served. Exhibiting students have the opportunity to win a door prize during the event.
Families and friends of the artists are welcomed to attend the free receptions and to also visit the free exhibit anytime Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 11 am to 3 pm.
