Art Center of Battle Creek

ALERT! - Summer Street Closure

Art Center opens “Art Center Too”

The Art Center of Battle Creek, located at 265 E. Emmett Street, will be making a few changes in the upcoming months because of road construction in the area.   Emmett Street will be closed between Fremont Street and McKinley Street from April 27th through September 3rd.

Since the Art Center serves over 150 artists in its Michigan Palette Gift/Gallery Shop, a change of locations was necessary to continue to provide sales for those artists. By partnering with Battle Creek Unlimited and the Downtown Partnership, the location at 80 West Michigan, across from Arcadia Brewery, became available.  “This location is ideal for our gift/gallery shop.” says Linda Holderbaum, Executive Director.  “It will allow some of our artist to bring in bigger work that we can usually only accommodate during our annual Holly Mart sale.” The Art Center will move its gift/gallery shop to that location and also have a small exhibit area.  “Art Center Too” will open with a special reception for downtown merchants on Sunday, May 2nd and open to the public on May 3rd.  Hours will be from 11 am to 5 pm.  Though Art Center Too will not be open on Saturdays or Sundays, it will be open for special events in the downtown area on weekends.
Art Center Too will continue to occupy this location until September.

During this time the main Art Center facility on Emmett Street will be open for all classes and the building can be accessed by taking McKinley Street north to Merwood. Turn left (west) on Merwood and into the back driveway of Greensmith Florist/Addington Hills Café.  The parking lots of Greensmith’s and the Art Center are linked together and you can easily reach the Art Center.  There will be signage posted for directions as well.   Exhibitions scheduled at the Art Center for May through September have been postponed.  “Maintenance of our building is always hard to fit into our very busy schedules” says Holderbaum. “This will be a great opportunity to patch and repaint gallery walls, clean carpets and be ready for our fall exhibition season.”

The Art Center will reopen in October with Beauty. Style. Design. The Art of the Auto on Sunday, October 3rd with the opening reception from 2-4 pm.

Art Center Too can be reached at 964-9680
